The One Unknown
You see them walk in, they look unfamiliar. Their face seems lost amongst many unrecognizable faces. There is a tug at your heart. Do you walk up and say hi or do you stay where you are at? This shouldn't be a hard question to answer but for many it is.
Where do I begin? I've seen faces like this before. I've been one of those faces. I've also been the one where the Lord tugged at my heart to make the first step.
Have I always listened to the Lord pushing me to take that step of unfamiliarity? No, no I haven't but I can say I've heeded His voice in this area more times than not. I've always been more on the shy side. My husband, more importantly God, has really helped me come out of my shell. Because of this, I have met and have become friends with some of the most amazing people.
That face though, being that face is something I loathe. Having others look at you and not talk to you can make you feel unwelcomed in their presence and alone. I always start to think immediately, what do they think about me, am I wearing a face that tells them do not talk to me or a face that has a crazy smile plastered on it that turns them away making them think that I am a clown from the near by circus.
It should never be those who are new that have to make the first steps. They are in a new place where no one knows them. Here they are in a state of vulnurbility. So, let's not mess with that and make them feel any worse than they probably already do. Especially since we have no idea what they are going through.
We are called to serve others. Sometimes God uses us to be the bridge between them and someone else or between them and Himself. Another name for bridge could be a connector. I have a friend who always said that I was a connector. I never noticed until a few years later. I love getting different people together who I think that their personalities would be a perfect mesh. This is one way we can be a bridge or connector. The other is they may be a wayward soul who just needs some kindness to bring them back to Christ, or even just back to church. These are some examples of serving.
"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh but by love serve one another." Galatians 5:13 KJV
If we are willing to allow God to use us as His vessel, then that shyness you may have or that lack of communication you struggle with can resolve, at least for the moment. If God wants to use you, He will help you.
"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth,' and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.'' 2 Timothy 2:20-21 KJV
Reach out to those around you. Invite them over or out to dinner. At least speak with them. Whether you've seen them a million times or for the first time. You may never Know what type of impact you will have on them. Instead of having a negative impact, have a positive impact in their lives.
*A willing heart and a friendly spirit can bring great joy to the soul.
